Went to Jingjing ’s (classmate who’s in AEP) blog and commented on this photo!
I think this photo is lovely!
The composition is not bad, as monument nicely separates the sky into dark and bright areas, as if the statue is resisting the dark clouds and heralding the light! The wet pavement also gives lovely reflections, especially those of the monument and the sunlight. Somehow the reflections and the long shadows are so synonymous with the frequently rainy London! sort of reminds me of a painting.. forgot the name
Just as a suggestion, perhaps you could try making this photo black-and-white or monochrome, as i think it’ll offer more contrast and add on to the after-rain feel. Monochrome would also portray a more peaceful feeling, as monochrome tends to suggest tranquility.
Also, you can try this shot from a different angle, for example from the pavement upwards (hence the long shadows will be main thing in e foreground, leading the viewers eye into the photo, and the monument will be seen from a bottom-up perspective to make it seem taller.) The monument can still stay in the centre of the photo to divide the sky into its bright and dark areas.
All in all, good job!
P.S. *really love those long shadows and reflections off the pavement… they somehow make me feel peaceful
