Past paintings

Just realised that my blog has been quite dead.. and here i am to revive it! (not with more photos… cos i think this is turning out to be more like a photo blog rather than an art blog XD)

hmm. so. was looking through the paintings i did like a few years ago (2004 to be exact) haha.. and decided to upload them!

Presenting… the very first watercolour painting that I ever did! (which, of course, was done under some supervision from my teacher.) haha. was quite satisfied with my very first attempt!

This painting was done with poster paint.. and i think it only looks presentable from far.. if u look closely it’s quite horrible haha. from far though, i like the clouds and the vibrancy of the colours ( of the sand and sea). the waves and the people are very weird.. haha. yet this is expected since it was completely done without supervision.. so ya. u can tell the difference XD

I was exploring the idea of reflection in this painting… and i guess i like the reflection more than the real one cos it’s not so clear and the awkwardness of the bridge is somewhat hidden XD the background is actually alright except for the trees on the right.. totally spoils the background la. sigh. haha. oh wells.

Another one of my poster paintings. overall, i am quite satisfied with this painting.. the only thing that irritates me are the row of tree trunks in the background (they look like toothpicks!) urgh. can tell i just use single strokes :p too lazy liao.. tsk tsk

dumdeedumdeedum! comments are all welcome!! :D

  1. hi yingda :) i love the paintings, esp. their painterly effect :D the fourth is my fav cos the colours are the most realistic :) the colours are a lil too saturated in the 2nd and 3rd i think, like the waters a lil too blue, but i think these are really beautiful :D did you paint from a pic or from actual life? come comment too yea :)

  2. Haha paint from photograph.. of course la… singapore dun hv such nice scenery XD and back then i was just starting to learn how to paint… cant paint from real life XD

  3. plus points:
1)the water in the last 2 pics! it just look so real!
2)the last painting. in it, one can really see depth
3)the houses in the first pic has got really fine details, considering their sizes.

    minus points:
1)background of 2nd pic. I, personally, couldn’t really distiguish whether the white lumps were sand mounds of clouds initially.
2)the background of the 1st pic. made me think of the setting as a gloomy nght with avalanche when i saw what was behind the mountains(but if that was what u set out to portray then take this as a plus point.)

    1 suggested improvement:
for the 2nd last pic, try and add some darker shades in background for depth. ^^
